The exhibition will provide an overview of a century of aviation innovation in the West of England, taking as it's starting point the founding in 1910 of the Bristol Aeroplane Company, which went on to form the basis of Bristol-Siddeley Engines, British Aircraft Corporation, British Aerospace, Rolls-Royce (Bristol), Airbus (Filton) and other major companies.
The exhibition will be arranged around five key themes: The Pioneers, The Technology, The Workforce And The Community, Worldwide Connections and Defence Of The Realm, and will include original artefacts, scale models, sections of aircraft and engines, interpretation panels, audio and film clips, and live interpreters. There will also be family-focused workshops and other activities during the October half-term and at weekends.
The exhibition coincides with the 100th anniversary of the first public demonstration of the Bristol Boxkite in Bristol on the Downs (14th November 1910) and the anniversary of the death of Sir George White (22 November 1916).
