A WOMAN who was plucked out of the River Orwell in a river rescue, has been taken to hospital after paramedics found a pulse.
Initial reports suggested that a body had been spotted in the river close to London Road by a member of the public.
Police, fire crews and ambulances scrambled to scene in a race against time to save the woman, who is in her 50s.
The drama unfolded shortly after 5.15pm, causing chaos for motorists travelling home from work.
A spokesman for Suffolk police said: “The woman was taken to hospital after a pulse was found.”
A cordon remains in place while officers conduct enquiries to ascertain how the woman ended up in the water.
Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the London Road area.
