Madhouse, which sells discounted jeans and casual clothes, only moved into the former Littlewoods department store last November.

Now signs have gone up in the unit saying that it will be closing its doors for the last time on November 3.

This is the latest blow to a centre which has seen a number of its main trading units shut up shop over recent months including the Warehouse/Miss Selfridge store.

As revealed by The Evening Star last month Tower Ramparts has been put up for sale by its owner, Kandahar Real Estate.

The Madhouse store was not leased directly from the centre.

The former Littlewoods store is still leased to Associated British Foods and that had sub-let the unit to Madhouse for the last year.

Ipswich Central is trying to boost the retail scene in the town, and executive director Paul Clement said he was not aware that Madhouse were about to leave the Tower Ramparts.

His organisation remained confident that Ipswich was an attractive location for retailers.

Madhouse has operated in a number of different units in the town over the last few years – its first presence in Ipswich was in the Buttermarket shopping centre before it moved into the former Zavvi store in Westgate Street and then moved to Tower Ramparts last November.

The Tower Ramparts centre, which opened in 1986, has one new tenant – Calendar Club has opened in an empty unit, but that business usually only trades during the run-up to Christmas.
